Summary Explanation/Background
On May 2, 2022, the Board of County Commissioners (“Board”) enacted Sections 20-105 and 20-106 of the Broward County Code of Ordinances (“Code”) to require 60 days’ notice for terminations or increases in rent for residential tenancies in Broward County. The initial implementation of these Code provisions has provided valuable feedback to the County. This item, if approved, would direct the Office of the County Attorney to prepare an Ordinance for consideration by the Board to modify the types of residential tenancies to which the notice requirement applies, such as excluding assisted living facilities, terminations of tenancies by newly deployed military personnel, and terminations of tenancies by the landlord or the tenant for breach of a material provision of the rental agreement.
