Summary Explanation/Background
On March 11, 2021, the President signed the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 into law, which provides direct federal assistance to local governments with populations over 200,000 for the emergency rental assistance program including administrative costs under the Housing Provisions of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

Emergency Rental Assistance
In addition to the $58,965,475 approved by the board on February 9, 2021 and the $26,980,368 approved by the board on June 1, 2021, Broward County has received $15,276,657 in funds to assist with the COVID-19 public health emergency. This program will assist households that are unable to pay rent and utilities due to a direct or indirect loss associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
