Summary Explanation/Background
On May 8, 2019, the Board enacted an Ordinance creating the Apprenticeship Program. The Apprenticeship Program requires that contractors responding to a solicitation for certain County construction projects commit to participating in an apprenticeship program registered with the Florida Department of Education or the United States Department of Labor. After award and for the duration of the construction contract, at least 12% of the labor hours on the construction project must be performed by apprentices employed by the contractor or its subcontractors.

On August 19, 2019, the Board directed the Office of the County Attorney to prepare certain amendments to the Apprenticeship Program and, consistent with the Office of Economic and Small Business Development's request, delayed implementation of the Apprenticeship Program until June 2020.
