Summary Explanation/Background
Various police departments and agencies throughout Broward County have expressed interest in installing video technology, including cameras and license plate readers, on or in Broward County traffic infrastructure for the purpose of assisting police departments in preventing and/or solving crimes within Broward County. These police departments and agencies have indicated that the use of such video technology on or in Broward County traffic infrastructure will result in much more efficient police operations, which will save these departments and agencies significant time and money.
Attached to this agenda item as Exhibit 1 is a compilation of recent correspondence sent by representatives of various police departments related to the use of video technology on or in Broward County traffic infrastructure.
This agenda item enables the Board to discuss the County’s willingness to allow the installation of video technology on or in Broward County traffic infrastructure for internal police operations.
