Summary Explanation/Background
More than 20 million passengers travel through Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport ("Airport") every year, resulting in many, many drop-offs and pickups and the associated loading and unloading of people and their bags from vehicles in front of the Airport terminals. The Broward County Code of Ordinances ("Code") generally prohibits stopping, standing, or parking at the Airport terminals with only a few exceptions, such as actively loading or unloading in areas marking for such activity. Dozens of tickets are written every day by enforcement officers for violations of this rule, but these tickets are not infrequently dismissed when challenged.

This agenda item would direct the Office of the County Attorney, in conjunction with Airport staff, to prepare an amendment to the applicable Code provisions to ensure the rules are clearly and consistently stated, to ensure consistent and fair application of the rules by enforcement officers, and to better facilitate the enforcement of tickets for parking violations.
