Summary Explanation/Background

THE FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

The purpose of this item is to initiate the process necessary for the sunset of the Health Facilities Authority (“Authority”). On March 28, 2024, the board members of the Authority voted unanimously to proceed with the dissolution of the Authority, after several years of inactivity. Pursuant to Section 15-194 of the Broward County Code of Ordinances, the Broward County Board of County Commissioners (“Board”) has the power and authority at any time to abolish the Authority by ordinance. After the proposed Ordinance is drafted, it will return to the Board to set a public hearing. Upon completion of the abolishment process, the Board will directly oversee any future Health Facilities Authority activity.
