MOTION TO ADOPT Resolution supporting the Florida Legislature's honorary designation of State Road A1A as the "Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway," the title of which is as follows:
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE HONORARY DESIGNATION FOR ALL PORTIONS OF STATE ROAD A1A LOCATED WITHIN BROWARD COUNTY AS THE "JIMMY BUFFETT MEMORIAL HIGHWAY"; RECOGNIZING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AS THE AGENCY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DESIGN, ERECTION, AND MAINTENANCE OF THE HONORARY DESIGNATION MARKERS; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

Why Action is Necessary
Section 334.071(3), Florida Statutes, provides that if the bridge or road segment being designated is located in more than one city or county, resolutions supporting the honorary designation must be passed by each affected local government prior to the erection of the honorary markers.
What Action Accomplishes
Approves supporting the honorary designation for all portions of State Road A1A located within Broward County as the "Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway."

House Bill 91 from the 2024 Legislative Session, codified as Chapter 2024-277, Laws of Florida, designates all portions of State Road A1A located in the 13 counties, from Monroe County through Nassau County (the "Roadway"), as the "Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway" and directs the Florida Department of Transportation ("FDOT") to erect suitable markers by August 30, 2024.
