Why Action is Necessary
Broward County Code of Ordinances, Chapter 15-74 states vacancies, appointments, and reappointments in the membership for the Broward Regional EMS Council, an advisory board to the Broward County Board of County Commissioners (the “Board”), shall be filled in the same manner provided for in the original appointment. As such, a name for each category/organization shall be submitted to the Board for consideration as an appointment to the Broward Regional EMS Council.

This action allows the Board of County Commissioners to appoint Joshua Cornblit to the position: Advanced Life Support (ALS) County Provider, and Alexandra Jonker, Fire and Paramedic: Union Representative.

THE BROWARD REGIONAL EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES (EMS) COUNCIL, THROUGH THE OFFICE OF MEDICAL EXAMINER AND TRAUMA SERVICES, RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.
The Broward Regional EMS Council makes recommendations to the Board on issues concerning the delivery of emergency and nonemergency care and transportation to the citizens and visitors of Broward County.
Each member of the Council represents a specific category based upon expertise within a given area. The Board appoints Council members and each serve for a four-year term, or through the expiration of the vacant position's term, at the pleasure of the Board.
The Broward Regional EMS Council met on March 7, 2024, to discuss nominations for the Broward Regional EMS Council. The Broward Regional EMS Council approved forwarding Joshua Cornblit, representing Advanced Life Support (ALS) County Provider (5-21-2024 to 5-21-2028) to the Board for appointment:
The Broward Regional EMS Council also discussed two nominees, Alexandra Jonker and Max Lashin, for the Fire and Paramedic Union Representative. Both nominees meet the criteria for serving in the category. The Broward Regional EMS Council approved forwarding Alexandra Jonker, Fire and Paramedic, Union Representative, (5-21-2024 to 5-21-2028) for nomination to the Board for appointment. Section 15-74, Broward County Code of Ordinances, provides that the Board may approve a nomination submitted by the Broward Regional EMS Council, or the Board may appoint another individual who meets the criteria of a particular category.
Qualifications for appointments have been reviewed and are on file with the Office of Medical Examiner and Trauma Services.
