Why Action is Necessary
A. In accordance with Broward County Code, Chapter 1, Section 1-20, action by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners is necessary to execute the grant agreement.
B. County Commission approval is necessary to receive and appropriate grant funds and unanticipated revenues.
What Action Accomplishes
A. Approval of the Florida Sports Foundations Grant Agreement enables the County to accept the grant funding.
B. Recognizes and appropriates grant funds to support promotional costs associated with hosting the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup.

Summary Explanation/Background
THE GREATER FORT LAUDERDALE CONVENTION & VISITORS BUREAU (VISIT LAUDERDALE) RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THIS ITEM.
This item supports both the County Commission’s Value of Collaborates by “Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives,” and the County Commission Goal of Healthy Community by “Cultivating community culture, arts, recreation and life-long learning.”
The Broward County Stadium in Central Broward Regional Park is one of three sites in the United States to host the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup on June 7-16, 2024 (“Event”). Housing seven teams and hosting four matches, this Event is projected to generate 20,000 hotel room nights (with 7,200 of those being formally contracted). The total projected economic impact to Broward County is estimated to exceed $25,000,000.
Broward County/Visit Lauderdale is designated as the “Official Host of the Event” with prominent logo placement on the pitch - positioned for maximum exposure during televised broadcasts. Additionally, Visit Lauderdale will have a 15-second TV commercial to be aired pre-match and post-match during each event and one 30-second vignette on global broadcast coverage of the matches.
The proposed grant agreement is on the required form of the Florida Sports Foundation and contains nonstandard terms, including a requirement that County and T20 indemnify the Florida Sports Foundation for any IP claims, claims arising from County’s performance of the grant agreement, and any negligent acts by County. The grant agreement also requires T20 to list the Florida Sports Foundation as an additional insured, and requires County to, as a condition precedent to County’s receipt of the grant funds, submit proof of such insurance. The Sponsorship Agreement Between T20 World Cup USA, Inc., and County requires T20 to comply with all third-party obligations of the Florida Sports Foundation Grant Agreement, including the two provisions stated above.
