Why Action is Necessary
Florida Statutes 932.7055(5)(a) requires that proceeds from the disposition of liens and forfeited property obtained from criminal procedure and corrections be deposited in a special law enforcement trust fund to be used for law enforcement purposes. Recommendation of the Sheriff and Board approval is required to appropriate LETF funds.

Summary Explanation/Background
A. The Broward Sheriff’s Office submits this LETF request to fund the Weston District Verkata Camera System. This camera system upgrade will include the use of AI enhanced cameras, and will allow the system to be connected to the BSO Real Time Crime Center (RTCC).
B. The Broward Sheriff’s Office submits this LETF request to the Dania Beach District with a mobile patrol golf cart. This will allow deputies to efficiently navigate high-traffic pedestrian areas, reduce response time and increase visibility in the densely populated environment of Dania Pointe.
C. Florida Statute 932.7055(5)(c)(3) requires that BSO expend no less than 25 percent of Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act proceeds within the Fiscal Year towards the support or operation of various programs for the benefit of the community. To achieve this goal, BSO has implemented a structured selection process to disburse these funds in an equitable manner to programs with significant likelihood of benefiting the community.

Funds are available within the Law Enforcement Trust Fund for these actions. According to BSO, the current balance of the LETF, as of August 12, 2026, is $26,817,202 in the local account ($15,503,931 which is unrestricted) and $17,258,001 in the federal account ($11,394,524 of which is unrestricted). This action will utilize $787,174 of the LETF funds; $189,904 of which are Federal Treasury restricted funds, $17,270 of which are Federal Justice restricted funds, and $580,000 of which are local unrestricted funds.
