Summary Explanation/Background
THE HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE ELDERLY AND VETERANS SERVICES DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE ACTIONS.
These actions support the Commission’s value of "building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives" and the goal of "delivering accessible human services that holistically address the whole person collaboratively and compassionately.” This Amendment increases funds for services to clients with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, and their caregivers, thus addressing the special needs of eligible individuals.
The Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative (“ADI”) was legislatively created 30 years ago with the goal of providing funds for the continuum of services to meet the changing needs of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, as well as their families. The Florida Department of Elder Affairs develops policies and administers programs and services to carry out the statutory requirements for this program.
The Elderly and Veteran Services Division (“EVSD”) has served as the lead agency for aging services in Broward County since 1986. Through this Amendment, EVSD will enroll more clients from the waitlist to meet the increasing number of individuals and families afflicted by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. ADI respite includes case management, in-home services, training, support, as well as emergency and extended care for caregivers. No outcomes have been established.
State ADI funds are distributed through the Areawide Council on Aging of Broward County, Inc. (“Council”). The Council is acting on behalf of the state of Florida.
This Amendment (Exhibit 1) is in the Council’s format and was reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney. The Council will sign last following the Commission’s approval.
