Summary Explanation/Background
THE AVIATION DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
This action approves the acceptance of an FAA Grant for AIP Project No. 3-12-0025-XXX-2025 to provide federal grant funding and authorizes the Director of Aviation to execute the grant for the project at FLL.
Taxiway A runs parallel to the North Runway (10L-28R) at FLL and is considered the primary taxiway serving the north side of the airport. The portion of the taxiway included under this rehabilitation is mainly east of the National Jet Ramp Connector to the east end of the taxiway. The dimensions of the taxiway to be rehabilitated are 5070 feet long x 150 feet wide. The rehabilitation will also include milling and paving, reconstruction of some areas, shoulder pavements, access connectors, some electrical upgrades (replacement of edge lights), signage upgrades, markings, and sodding.
The total construction cost for Project is estimated to be $18,049,069. To maximize federal funding opportunities, the project has been funded for a total of $9,129,036 with AIP grant number 3-12-0025-100-2024. The remaining amount of $8,920,033 of the construction cost will be funded as follows: the FAA will fund up to a maximum amount of $6,690,025 and all remaining expenses will be funded by the Florida Department of Transportation, estimated to be in the amount of $110,262, and Broward County, estimated to be in the amount of $2,119,746, while covering any Project cost overruns.
The FAA did not provide the grant agreement to Broward County at the time of submission of this item. Upon receipt of the FAA Grant Agreement, the Broward County Aviation Department will send to the Board as additional material prior to its consideration of this action. The typical FAA Grant Agreement does not include the County's standard agreement provisions because the FAA requires the County to use its standard grant agreement.
