Summary Explanation/Background
THE PUBLIC WORKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE REAL PROPERTY AND REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
Pursuant to Section 125.379, Florida Statutes, every three (3) years, Broward County is required to prepare an inventory list of all real property within its jurisdiction, owned by Broward County or any dependent special district within its boundaries, that is appropriate for use as affordable housing. The Board is required to review the inventory list at a public hearing. Following the public hearing, the Board is required to adopt a resolution that includes the inventory list. The next statutory deadline for preparation of the inventory list is October 1, 2026.
The County Administrator published Notice of Public Hearing to be held on September 22, 2026. This meeting is the public hearing for approval of the inventory list, which, upon approval, will be made publicly available on Broward County’s website.
The Real Property and Real Estate Development Division conducted in-depth research to capture all County-owned properties that are suitable for use as affordable housing. This research included coordinating with other County divisions and the dependent special districts to compile data on the properties, determining if there was any planned use already slated for a particular property, and reviewing all potential properties with County Administration.
All documents have been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney.
