Summary Explanation/Background

This item supports the Goal of the Broward County Board of County Commissioner’s (“Board”) of Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.”

 

The American Jewish Committee (AJC) has created a task force to implement the White House U.S. National Strategy to counter antisemitism and raise awareness about the impacts of antisemitism globally and in our community.

 

The original agreement, dated October 24, 2023, provided $250,000 in funding for approved purposes through December 31, 2024. The proposed amendment provides an additional $47,000 and permits all funds to be utilized for approved purposes through September 30, 2025.

 

The American Jewish Committee will provide the following educational initiatives:

 

Community Education

Education at Broward County Libraries

Host a Combating Antisemitism Community Summit

Evening Workshops

Other community partnerships

 

Antisemitism Training

Trainings for elected officials, law enforcement, sports teams, education institutions, nonprofits, and corporations to help recognize antisemitism, raise awareness, and address it.

 

Trainings will be held at various community locations including Broward County Library branches, schools, or other locations.

 

Public Awareness Campaign

 

The campaign will support key objectives including:

 

                     Increasing understanding of antisemitism

 

                     Reinforcing the need for all people to act against antisemitism

 

The public marketing campaign will include advertising, social media ads, radio ad buys, and digital billboards to reach a wide demographic.

 

Sponsorship funds will be utilized in accordance with the Supplemental Sponsorship Summary attached as Exhibit C to the proposed amendment (Exhibit 1).
