Summary Explanation/Background

THE RESILIENT ENVIRONMENT DEPARTMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

The item supports the County Commission’s value of “Collaborates: Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives”; and the goal of “Resilient Community: Ensuring accessible, seamlessly integrated investments in renewable energy, sustainable practices, manufacturing, resilient infrastructure, and environmental protection.”

Broward County is scheduled to host the 23rd Annual Water Matters Day event on March 8, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Tree Tops Park in Davie.

The intent of Water Matters Day is to help Broward residents make the connection between their daily activities and the impact they have on our local water resources and the natural environment. The event promotes environmental stewardship and shows people how to save time and money and protect water through landscape best management practices and indoor conservation. The co-sponsorship funds will be used to offset the cost of event operations such as print expenses, media purchases, promotional materials, tents, entertainment, security, and other miscellaneous costs. Water Matters Day is attended by 3,000 Broward County residents, on average.

The co-sponsorships may be solicited by:

Monica Pognon, Director, Natural Resources Division

Vanessa Balta, Environmental Programs Manager, Natural Resources Division

Ashley Robins, Environmental Specialist, Natural Resources Division

Per Advantage Marketing guidelines, the Water Matters Day event co-sponsorship opportunities at the $5,000 level or higher should be posted on the Purchasing Division’s website as a Request for Information (RFI). The second part of the motion directs the County Administrator to provide such notice. Department staff recommend that all co-sponsorship levels be posted, to provide complete information to any prospective co-sponsors who may see the RFI.
