The item supports the County’s goal of Cultivating community culture, arts, recreation, and life-long learning.
The Community Foundation of Broward, Inc., is a Florida non-profit organization that was founded in 1984 as a grantmaking public charity. Their purpose is to provide leadership on community solutions and foster philanthropy that connects people who care with causes that matter. The Community Foundation of Broward’s “Art of Community” grant program merges arts and social justice issues to bridge, build, and bond Broward residents for a stronger more unified community.
On October 5, 2023, the Broward Cultural Council recommended the approval for Fiscal Year 2024 applicants from the September 12, 2023, Artist Innovation Grant panel review.
On December 14, 2021, the Broward County Board of County Commissioners approved Grant Agreement from the Community Foundation of Broward, Inc., for the period starting November 1, 2021, in the amount of $75,000, with a required County match of 50%.
On December 14, 2021, the Broward County Board of County Commissioners approved budget Resolution No. 2021-649 within the Community Foundation Grant Fund to appropriate revenue in the amount of $75,000 to provide funding for Artist Innovation Grants.
On October 7, 2021, the Broward County Cultural Division (“Cultural Division”) established the Artist Innovation Grant program, which provides funds to professional/established artists for new and experimental art projects. The program is designed to encourage risk-taking, exploration of artistic pursuits, career advancement, interactivity, and sustained commitment to artistic work. Via this grant, the Community Foundation of Broward has partnered with the Cultural Division to implement a new Artist Innovation Grant program through the existing funding process, utilizing remaining Art of Community grant funds.
The proposed grant funding in the amount of $50,000 will be used by the Cultural Division to fund ten artists through the Artist Innovation Grant program for Fiscal Year 2024. The Grant Agreement includes a dollar-for-dollar County grant match funds provision.
