Summary Explanation/Background
THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND GROWTH MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING AND PERMITTING DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
This action supports the Board’s value encouraging investments in renewable energy, sustainable practices and environmental protection: Goal 1: Seek funding for, implement policies and pursue projects promoting, the use of alternative energies and sustainable practices. Resource conservation and environmental protection is achieved by funding a tree planting project and a tree giveaway.
The City of Wilton Manors (City) has submitted a request for funding from the Tree Preservation Trust Fund for the purchase and installation of 35 trees along Wilton Drive and for the purchase of 350 trees for a tree giveaway. The City will provide for the future maintenance for the trees along Wilton Drive. The Tree Preservation Trust Fund currently contains approximately $65,452 intended for use within the City (Exhibit 3). The funds were collected from contributions in lieu of tree replacement for Tree Removal Licenses issued within the City of Wilton Manors.
The Tree Preservation Trust Fund Committee has reviewed and approved this request. Funds will be paid to the City on a reimbursement basis pursuant to the attached agreement (Exhibit 2). The agreement has been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney.
