Summary Explanation/Background
The FIFA World Cup 2026™ will take place across multiple locations in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, including at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida during June and July of 2026. Seven FIFA World Cup 2026 matches will be played at Hard Rock Stadium, including the Bronze Final on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
As described in the Tourism Sponsorship Application in Exhibit 1, and shown in the presentation in Exhibit 2, the Greater Miami Sports Commission, d/b/a FIFA World Cup 2026™ Miami Host Committee anticipates that this event will generate significant tourism revenue for Broward County.
This item will allow the Board of County Commissioners to consider approval of the proposed sponsorship for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ in the amount of $2,000,000, and to provide any additional direction to staff, as necessary. While the original application requested $2.5 million, FIFA World Cup 2026™ has amended their request to $2.0 million.
