Summary Explanation/Background
THE RESILIENT ENVIRONMENT DEPARTMENT, URBAN PLANNING DIVISION, AND HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
The proposed historic resource designation supports Broward County Land Use Plan Policy 2.30.1 which provides that “the Broward County Land Use Plan and local plans shall map and maintain a current list of historically, architecturally and archaeologically significant properties and address the protection of these historic resources.”
On April 17, 2025, the Historic Preservation Board recommended the Historic Hallandale Schoolhouse, located in the City of Hallandale Beach, for designation as a historic resource. The site is located at 648 NW 2nd Street. Designation of the Historic Hallandale Schoolhouse as a historic resource is consistent with the criteria contained in Sections 5-533(a)(2)a. and c. and Section 5-533(a)(4) of the Code.
The Urban Planning Division requested, but did not receive, comments from the City. The City was provided notice of the HPB hearing but did not attend. The City owns and manages the property.
