Summary Explanation/Background

PARKS AND RECREATION DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

This item supports the Commission’s goals of “cultivating community culture, arts, recreation and life-long learning.”

The acceptance of this donation will support Deerfield Island Park by providing funding for general maintenance, site improvements, and enhancements.

As part of this donation, the donor has requested that one of the shuttle boats at Deerfield Island Park be designated the “JoAnna B.” Upon approval of this item, the Director of the Parks and Recreation Division will designate the shuttle accordingly. The designation of personal property in this manner is not subject to the Commission’s formal naming protocol which governs naming of real property (e.g., buildings, roads, facilities). However, the Parks and Recreation Division reviewed available information regarding the donor and the proposed name and did not identify information that would raise concerns under the County’s standard naming criteria.
