Summary Explanation/Background
THE RESILIENT ENVIRONMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE CONSUMER PROTECTION DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
If enacted, the Ordinance would amend Chapter 20, Article VII, Divisions 3 and 4 of the Broward County Code of Ordinances ("Code") pertaining to Motor Vehicle Body Repair and Motor Vehicle Painting Shops, and Technicians Motor Vehicle Repair Shops, and Technicians.
If enacted, the amendments will require applicants to resolve outstanding fines, penalties, or other enforcement actions prior to licensure or license renewal. Additionally, as written, the Code currently requires all technicians to be certified by either the American Advanced Technicians Institute ("AATI") or the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence ("ASE") training programs. However, neither AATI nor ASE training programs currently offer motorcycle body repair and paint or motorcycle repair technician training. The proposed amendments will authorize the Broward County Consumer Protection Division to approve training programs other than AATI or ASE when certifying technician applicants.
The proposed amendments aim to align the Code with current industry standards and operational requirements associated with Motor Vehicle Body Repair and Paint, Motor Vehicle Repair, and Technicians.
