Summary Explanation/Background

On April 14, 2026, the Board considered Item No. 59, a motion to discuss potential changes to the Cultural Division’s Arts and Cultural Festival and Special Event Sponsorship guidelines. The Board held discussion on the item and directed the County Administrator to bring a revised proposal for Board consideration reflective of Board feedback received that day.

 

This item proposes changes to the Cultural Division’s Arts & Cultural Festival and Special Event Sponsorship program (Program) to allow County Commissioners and their offices to apply to receive funds under the Program for events in the district represented by the Commissioner (District Events). The proposed changes are listed below and based on the Commission’s discussion at the April 14 Commission meeting. Proposed changes are listed below and detailed in Exhibit 1.

 

District Events

                     Each Commission District is allocated $25,000 each Fiscal Year from the total allocated funds for this program for District Events.

                     District Events are eligible events (as defined in Section 1 of Exhibit 1) that substantially benefit Broward County, as determined by the applicable County Commissioner.

                     District Events are subject to the established and approved Program guidelines, including the application process, the applicable review criteria, budget submission, panel review process, legal review, and fully executed funding agreement in a form approved by the County Attorney’s Office.

                     District Events as referred to in this section must be approved by the applicable District Commissioner or Commission office.

                     Funds resulting from an approved District Event do not apply toward a municipality’s total potential funds in a given sponsorship cycle.

 

County Administration is seeking Board direction on this request.
