MOTION TO ADOPT Resolution directing the County Administrator to publish Notice of Public Hearing to be held on January 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., in Room 422 of Governmental Center East to consider enactment of a proposed Ordinance, the title of which is as follows:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, PERTAINING TO MANDATORY COURT COSTS; AMENDING SECTION 10-5 OF THE BROWARD COUNTY CODE OF ORDINANCES (“CODE”); AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY, INCLUSION IN THE CODE, AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

Summary Explanation/Background
Section 938.19, Florida Statutes, authorizes the Broward County Board of County Commissioners to impose a local assessment of up to Three Dollars ($3.00) for certain offenses, including violations of criminal law, local ordinances, and uniform traffic laws, to fund the operation and administration of teen courts in Broward County (“Mandatory Court Costs”).
Section 10-5 of the Broward County Code of Ordinances establishes an assessment of Mandatory Court Costs in the amount of Two Dollars ($2.00).
The proposed Ordinance, if enacted, would increase the current assessment of Mandatory Court Costs from Two Dollars ($2.00) to Three Dollars ($3.00).
