Summary Explanation/Background

THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION

The purpose of this agreement with the Sheriff of Broward County (BSO) is to ratify and document in writing the terms of the law enforcement and security services BSO is already providing, as of April 27, 2024, at the Transportation Department’s two transit maintenance facilities located at 3201 W. Copans Road, in Pompano Beach, Florida and 5201 Ravenswood Road in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Under the terms of the agreement, BSO will continue to assign and provide one Deputy at each Transit Facility for 24 hours per day, seven days per week for a term of 60 calendar days, retroactive to April 27, 2024, with a County option for one additional 30 calendar day extension.  The County will pay BSO for actual employee costs incurred, based on actual hours of service by the deputies, up to a maximum of 4,320 hours, for services actually performed and completed pursuant to this agreement. This agreement does not have an explicit maximum not-to-exceed price as BSO’s hourly cost for deputies ranges based on experience and other factors. This agreement may be terminated by cause within ten days’ written notice or for convenience with 30 days’ written notice.

If this item is approved, the 60-day initial term of the agreement will begin retroactively on April 27, 2024.
