Summary Explanation/Background

THE PUBLIC WORKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT, THE LOCAL PLANNING AGENCY (LPA), AND THE HOUSING AND URBAN PLANNING DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

Pursuant to Chapter 163.3177(6)(g), Florida Statutes, local governments identified in Section 380.24, Florida Statutes, must include a Coastal Management Element (CME) in the Comprehensive Plan.  Chapter 163.3178 requires the CME to include a master plan component for any ports located within the local government’s jurisdiction. The Broward County Administrative Code, Chapter 16 - Organization, Port Everglades, provides for the update of the Port Everglades Master Vision Plan (PEMVP) and its incorporation into the Broward County Comprehensive Plan.  The CME is being updated to include the required Deepwater Port Component and incorporate the PEMVP.
