Summary Explanation/Background

THE RESILIENT ENVIRONMENT DEPARTMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTIONS.

This item supports the County’s value of “Collaborates:  Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives” and “Goal: Ensuring accessible, seamlessly integrated investments in renewable energy, sustainable practices, manufacturing, resilient infrastructure, and environmental protection”.

The Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund provides technical assistance and grant funding to support youth aged 15 to 24 in designing, producing, and overseeing urgent climate solutions through local climate focused projects.

Initial grant funding of $50,000 will support youth-led climate projects through the local distribution of $1,000 - $5,000 microgrants. Broward County will be eligible for an additional $100,000 to distribute to additional local youth-led climate projects over 12 more months.

Motion A. approves grant agreement from April 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024.  Retroactive approval is being requested because the grant award was not received from Bloomberg Philanthropies until April 24, 2024. (Exhibit 1)

Motion B. adopts a budget Resolution for the award under this agreement in the amount of $50,000. (Exhibit 2)

This agreement has been provided legal review and approval as to form by the Office of the County Attorney.

The agreement (grant) was approved as to form by the Office of Management and Budget Grant Section.
