Summary Explanation/Background
THE PUBLIC WORKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE HOUSING AND URBAN PLANNING DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTIONS.
The motions are consistent with the Board of County Commissioners’ goal of “ensuring economic opportunities and a sustainable economy, with an emphasis on Broward's lower and middle class.”
The above motions are part of an ongoing effort to facilitate redevelopment within the Broward Municipal Services District. Collectively, the motions establish a regulatory framework that allows commercial opportunities within older industrial areas that receive only minimal private reinvestment. The redevelopment overlay district expands the range of permitted uses and relaxes certain development standards, thereby incentivizing the establishment of new commercially oriented businesses.
