Why Action is Necessary
Pursuant to Section 29.17(d)(3) of the Broward County Administrative Code, Broward County Board of County Commissioners (“Board”) approval is required for all grant awards and associated grant award agreements greater than $250,000.
What Action Accomplishes
Approves grants providing funding support towards the operating expenses for the Museum of Discovery and Science, Inc., and Nova Southeastern University, Inc., on behalf of its Museum of Art Division, and authorizes County Administrator to execute the grant award agreements.

THE CULTURAL DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THESE MOTIONS.
This item supports the Board's Healthy Community Goal of cultivating community culture, arts, recreation, and life-long learning.
The Cultural Division’s General Operating Support (“GOS”) grant supports Broward based arts, and cultural organizations in the production and presentation of ongoing, sustainable, high-quality artistic activities that engages Broward County residents and visitors. The GOS grant program is the primary vehicle for supporting and strengthening the organizational capacity of grantees by providing multi-year, unrestricted operating support.
On March 7, 2024, the Broward Cultural Council recommended GOS grant award funding to the Museum of Discovery and Science and NSU Art Museum in the amounts of $306,500 and $252,634, respectively for Fiscal Year 2025.
Additional Cultural GOS, Program Support, and Capacity Building grants within the County Administrator’s approval authority (per section 29.17(d)(3) of the Broward County Administrative Code) were recommended for approval by the Cultural Council at the March 7 meeting. These grants were approved by the County Administrator in a memo dated September 30, 2024.
If approved, this motion will approve the grant award and authorize the County Administrator to sign the grant award agreement.
