Why Action is Necessary

Florida Statutes 932.7055(5)(a) requires that proceeds from the disposition of liens and forfeited property obtained from criminal procedure and corrections be deposited in a special law enforcement trust fund to be used for law enforcement purposes. Recommendation of the Sheriff and Board approval are required to appropriate LETF funds.

 

What Action Accomplishes

Provides LETF funding in the amount of $250,000 for the funding of one school resource officer in a school located within the City of Pompano Beach.

Summary Explanation/Background

The Broward Sheriff's Office supports this LETF request for the Pompano Beach SRO. The City of Pompano Beach has requested the use of LETF Funds to fund one (1) School Resource Officer (SRO) for the upcoming FY25/26. The SRO will be in a school located within the City of Pompano Beach and will provide security for the students, parents, and faculty. In addition, the SRO provides much needed mentoring and is a role model to our vulnerable student population.

Funds are available within the Law Enforcement Trust Fund for these actions. According to BSO, the current balance of the LETF, as of October 6, 2025, is $6,473,240 in the local account ($4,485,544 of which is unrestricted) and $16,555,108 in the federal account ($10,419,516 of which is unrestricted). This action will utilize a total of $250,000 of the Federal LETF restricted funds.
