Summary Explanation/Background

The Board of County Commissioners (“Board”) allocated $27 million to the Affordable Housing Trust Fund (“AHTF”) in Fiscal Year 2026. A total of $21 million has been allocated to large multifamily affordable housing projects with more than 70 units, and $5 million will support single-family homeownership initiatives. As a result, the AHTF currently has $1 million remaining for affordable housing initiatives in Fiscal Year 2026.

Smaller-scale multifamily housing projects increase affordable housing opportunities and often allow nonprofits and religious organizations to leverage their available property to provide affordable housing. Although the County has funded smaller-scale projects in the past, no funds were allocated toward smaller-scale projects in Fiscal Year 2026. The proposed competitive solicitation process to identify and fund eligible smaller-scale multifamily housing projects with fewer than 70 units will be consistent with existing AHTF multifamily funding procedures for large-scale multifamily housing projects.
