Summary Explanation/Background
THE PURCHASING DIVISION AND THE FINANCE ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DEPARTMENT/ENTERPRISE TECHNOLOGY SERVICES DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
The purpose of this item is to standardize the use of Broadcom Inc. (Broadcom) product lines of VMware. Products include virtual servers, virtual firewalls, virtual desktop instances, virus enhanced detection and enhanced detection response and administrative tools. VMware is highly integrated within multiple agencies: Aviation Department; Enterprise Technology Services Division; Libraries Division; Office of Regional Communications and Technology; Port Everglades Department; Traffic Engineering Division; Transportation Department; and Water and Wastewater Services Division.
The County previously procured VMware perpetual licenses through the County’s Dell Marketing, LP (Dell) Agreement (Agreement No. R1247310R1). VMware was acquired by Broadcom, which has significantly changed its Managed Service Providers and resellers network, and not all items will be available thru the Dell agreement.
Additionally, Broadcom will no longer offer a perpetual license structure or RAM-based pricing. This structure is being replaced with a subscription-based structure and a Central Processing Units core-based pricing structure, thus significantly increasing the annual budget provisions.
On March 22, 2024, the Purchasing Division issued a Request for Information (RFI) Notice of Intent to designate Broadcom virtual platform suites. The RFI ended on March 29, 2024 with 17 vendors views.
