Summary Explanation/Background

THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/WATER AND WASTEWATER SERVICES RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

Broward County provides retail water and wastewater services to approximately 58,000 customer accounts throughout the County's Water and Wastewater Services service area. The recommended Fiscal Year 2026 operating and capital program budgets for the Water and Wastewater Fund include increases in water and wastewater retail rates effective for services rendered on or after October 1, 2025. The recommended rates increases are necessary to fund operating costs, debt service costs, and cash-financed capital. These rates reflect an overall increase in water revenue of 6.12% and sewer revenue of 6.20%, for a cumulative overall revenue increase of 6.16%. An average residential customer using 5,000 gallons of water per month will experience an overall increase of $4.92 (5.77%) in their monthly water and wastewater bill, from $85.27 to $90.19.  All miscellaneous fees remain the same. The Retail Water and Wastewater rates were presented to the Board of County Commissioners at the Budget Workshop held on June 3, 2025, at the Broward County Governmental Center.

This action has been reviewed and approved by the Office of Management and Budget.
