MOTION TO APPROVE Student Internship Agreement between the University of Florida Board of Trustees and Broward County, for the benefit of the University of Florida’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (University), to provide interns to the Broward County Libraries Division Special Collections Section, effective upon execution of agreement, through one year, to provide internships for college students; authorize the County Administrator to execute the Agreement and any amendments thereto that do not increase the financial obligation of the County, subject to review for legal sufficiency by the Office of the County Attorney; and to take the necessary administrative and budgetary actions for the implementation of the grant award.

THE LIBRARIES DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
Approval of this item will support the Board’s Value of Collaboration, building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives. This item also supports the Board’s Healthy Community goal by cultivating community culture, arts, recreation, and lifelong learning.
The Agreement for Student Internship between the University of Florida and Broward County on behalf of the Libraries Division, provides a practical setting for university students to enhance their educational experience in public history, archival processes, and museum management. The interns will provide skilled assistance in support of the Libraries’ digitization and archiving operations of the special collections.
Through this Agreement for Student Internship, the University, the County, and the public will benefit from enriched programming, improved access to historical collections, and enhanced educational and cultural offerings resulting from the interns’ contributions. Participation in this internship is voluntary. Students will not be compensated by Broward County. The agreement may be extended by the parties for up to three additional one-year terms.
The Student Internship Agreement has been approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney.
