Summary Explanation/Background
On April 28, 2026 (Item 54), the Broward County Board of County Commissioners discussed opportunities to expand community engagement and economic participation throughout Broward County in connection with the 2026 World Cup. The Board expressed interest in supporting municipalities in hosting local events to ensure broader community access and economic benefit, and emphasized the importance of supporting local communities, small businesses, and residents through accessible World Cup-related programming. In response, this item supports municipal-led events that provide public access and local activation opportunities.
The proposed Sponsorship Agreement with the City of Lauderhill (“City”) provides funding in an amount not to exceed $125,000 on a reimbursement basis to support eligible costs associated with municipal events directly related to the 2026 World Cup. Events must be free and open to the public, held on municipal or County-owned property within Broward County, and completed by July 19, 2026. The City may also coordinate with other municipalities to support additional eligible events, subject to the terms and conditions of the Agreement.
To qualify for reimbursement, the City is required to provide a minimum one-to-one (1:1) match of the County’s funding contribution, which may include eligible in-kind services. The City must submit documentation supporting all expenditures, including proof of payment, event summaries, attendance information, and promotional materials, within the timeframes established in the Agreement.
Eligible expenditures include production costs, vendor services, equipment rental, entertainment, security, and other event-related expenses approved by the County. Ineligible expenditures include catering and alcoholic beverages.
The Agreement also requires the City to recognize Broward County as a sponsor in all event-related materials and to comply with applicable operational, safety, and permitting requirements.
The Agreement will be reviewed and approved as to legal sufficiency by the Office of the County Attorney prior to execution by the County Administrator.
The Agreement, including an Event Description and Budget, will be provided as Additional Material.
