Summary Explanation/Background

Under the Interlocal Service Boundary Agreement Act, Section 171.20, et seq., Florida Statutes, local governments may agree to adjust their boundaries. The City of Dania Beach (“Dania Beach”) and the City of Hollywood (“Hollywood”) have agreed to the transfer of the .2-acre parcel from Hollywood to Dania Beach as set forth in the proposed Interlocal Service Boundary Agreement for Contraction and Annexation of a Parcel of Land (the “Agreement”) (Exhibit 2). The parcel, currently owned by the Florida Department of Transportation, is undeveloped, and Dania Beach seeks to construct a public parking garage on the parcel that will benefit both municipalities and their residents. The County is a necessary party to the Agreement under the Interlocal Service Boundary Agreement Act, and enactment of an ordinance is required under Florida law to approve the Agreement.

The proposed Ordinance would approve the Agreement and authorize the Mayor to execute the Agreement. The Ordinance, if enacted, would not be codified into the Broward County Code of Ordinances.
