Summary Explanation/Background

THE PARKS AND RECREATION DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

The City of Coconut Creek plans to construct a multi-use pathway along the north side of Hillsboro Boulevard as part of the Hillsboro Corridor Redevelopment Area Project, which is funded in part by the Broward Redevelopment Program. This item seeks Board approval of a nonexclusive Revocable License Agreement (“Agreement”) between Broward County and the City to access and use certain portions of the property within the Revocable License Area (Exhibit 1) to construct and maintain a multi-use pathway and scenic native landscaping along the north side of Hillsboro Boulevard (collectively the “Project”).

The Project will create a meandering trail within the footprint of the existing sidewalk and up to ten feet into the boundaries of the Helene Klein Pineland Preserve and the Saw Palmetto Natural Area, both located in Coconut Creek. The trail will be landscaped to align with the surrounding natural areas. The proposed improvements include a loop in the trail at the southeast side of Saw Palmetto Natural Area with decorative stamped concrete and a bicycle repair station. The Project will serve as passive recreation, providing improved connections between the two natural areas for pedestrians and other users of the multi-use trail.

The City of Coconut Creek will be responsible for the maintenance of the multi-use trail and the landscaping installed surrounding the trail. They are required to keep the license area free of trash and invasive vegetation.
