Summary Explanation/Background
THE OFFICE OF ECONOMIC AND SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
This item supports the Board of County Commissioners’ Goal of “ensuring economic opportunities and a sustainable economy, with an emphasis on Broward’s lower and middle class.”
In January 2022, the County entered into an economic development partnership agreement with the Alliance to assist the County in implementing strategies for economic growth, job creation, and expansion of local tax base, and to carry out the purposes expressed in the Job Growth/Economic Development Incentives Act. The current agreement expires on September 30, 2026, and a new proposed agreement has been developed to continue the County’s economic development efforts with the Alliance.
As part of its obligations under the proposed Agreement, the Alliance will provide overall marketing and promotion of Broward County for economic development, client management, promote foreign direct investment, facilitate growth of targeted industries, and identify companies that are at risk of leaving the County and develop strategies for retention. If approved, the Agreement will commence on October 1, 2026, and will expire on September 30, 2031.
