This item supports the Board’s Value of “Ensuring economic opportunities and a sustainable economy with an emphasis on Broward's lower and middle class.”
Broward County enjoys unique advantages that are key to global hubs for domestic and international trade opportunities. This mission will support our ongoing efforts to strengthen the local business economy, while serving to strengthen ties with overseas interests and to advance Broward County and South Florida as a global trade hub.
Mayor Bogen seeks to travel from May 27 to June 4, 2026, on behalf of the County and the Commission for a Broward County-led outbound trade and sister cities mission trip to Japan and Taiwan. While there, Mayor Bogen will meet with local government officials, chambers of commerce, elected officials, and business owners as well as attend trade meetings under the auspices of the Consulate General of Japan in Miami.
Target sector Broward businesses are invited to participate in the Gold Key matchmaking program organized by the U.S. Commercial Service (U.S. Department of Commerce) of the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo and other trade mission meetings in Japan.
Mayor Bogen will also travel to Taiwan to meet with the Pingtung County leadership to formalize the Sister Cities partnership between Broward County and Pingtung County, in accordance with the Broward County Sister Cities International Steps to Structuring a Sister City Program Reference Guide.
