A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, TRANSMITTING A PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE BROWARD COUNTY LAND USE PLAN TEXT OF THE BROWARD COUNTY COMPREHENSIVE PLAN, AMENDING POLICY 2.16.4 REGARDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

Why Action is Necessary
It is necessary to schedule a public hearing of the Broward County Board of County Commissioners prior to transmittal of an amendment to the Broward County Comprehensive Plan.
What Action Accomplishes
The Resolution directs the County Administrator to set a public hearing for June 4, 2024, to consider transmittal of proposed text amendment PCT 24-2, which is an amendment to the Broward County Land Use Plan, to designated State review agencies pursuant to Section 163.3184, Florida Statutes, as amended.

Summary Explanation/Background
The Planning Council, as the Local Planning Agency (LPA) responsible for the Broward County Land Use Plan, recommended approval at its April 25, 2024, public hearing, including that a second Planning Council public hearing only be required if any substantive comments are received from local governments or State of Florida review agencies upon the County Commission’s pending transmittal (Vote of the Planning Council; Unanimous: 16-0; Brunson, Castillo, Fisher, Gomez, Greenberg, Hardin, Harrison, Horland, Levy, Newbold, Railey, Rosenof, Ryan, Werthman, Zeman and DiGiorgio):
AMENDMENT PCT 24-2
Amendment to the Broward County Land Use Plan text expanding Policy 2.16.4 to include Commerce designated lands within one-half (1/2) mile of passenger rail stations as a qualifying area.
Further, if the County Commission sets the public hearing, the full amendment report and associated attachments will be included as an exhibit to the public hearing item.
