MOTION TO APPROVE donations to the Caribbean Americas Soccer Association, Inc. (“CASA”); the United Negro College Fund, Inc. (“UNCF”); and the Island Society for the Promotion of Artistic and Cultural Education a/k/a Island SPACE Caribbean Museum (“Island SPACE”), each a Section 501(c)(3) charitable organization, in the amounts indicated below, for a total donated amount of $3,500, to fund the missions of the organizations from District 9’s Office budgeted funds for operating expenses; and to authorize the County Administrator to execute donation agreements consistent with the terms set forth in this item, subject to review and approval as to legal sufficiency by the Office of the County Attorney, and take all necessary administrative and budgetary actions to implement same. Summary Explanation/Background
District 9’s office would like to provide funding for the following three Section 501(c)(3) charitable organizations in the amounts indicated: $500 for the Caribbean Americas Soccer Association, Inc. (“CASA”); $1,000 for the United Negro College Fund, Inc. (“UNCF”); and $2,000 for the Island Society for the Promotion of Artistic and Cultural Education a/k/a Island SPACE Caribbean Museum (“Island SPACE”).
CASA is a Section 501(c)(3) charitable organization based in Lauderhill, Florida. Its mission is to link South Florida’s soccer to the rest of the world by developing all aspects of the sport, including children’s talent, and exposing the community to the highest level of the game.
UNCF is a Section 501(c)(3) charitable organization with multiple locations, including an office in Fort Lauderdale. Its mission is to build a pipeline of under-represented students who, with UNCF support, become highly qualified college graduates.
Island SPACE is a Section 501(c)(3) charitable organization currently located in Plantation, Florida. Its mission is the development and advancement of arts, culture, history, and educational initiatives that represent the Caribbean region in South Florida and the broader diaspora community.
District 9’s goal is to further the missions of these entities. If approved, this item would authorize the County Administrator to execute agreements prepared by the County Attorney’s Office to effectuate these donations.
