Summary Explanation/Background

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/REAL PROPERTY AND REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

A new State requirement in Section 125.379, Florida Statutes, requires Broward County to prepare, provide to the State, and make publicly available an inventory list of all real property within its jurisdiction, owned by Broward County or any dependent special district within its boundaries, that is appropriate for use as affordable housing by October 1, 2023, with obligations for resubmittal every three years thereafter.  Due to this being a new State requirement; it being the first time the County has been refined by law to compile and provide this information; and the extensive and comprehensive review of County-owned properties which entailed obtaining feedback from various County Agencies, all contributed to the inventory list submission to the State being delayed.

The Real Property and Real Estate Development Division conducted in-depth research to capture all County-owned properties that are suitable for use as affordable housing.  This research included coordinating with other divisions and the dependent special districts to compile data on the parcels, determining if there was any planned use already slated for a particular parcel, and reviewing all potential parcels with County Administration. This analysis resulted in many parcels being removed for consideration due to their limited size and unbuildable characteristics.

All documents have been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney.
