Summary Explanation/Background

The Planning Council, as the Local Planning Agency (LPA) responsible for the Broward County Land Use Plan, considered the following proposed small-scale amendment, PC 23-5, at its October 26, 2023, public hearing and recommended approval, including not requiring a second Planning Council public hearing, and recognizing the applicant’s voluntary commitments to 1) preserve approximately 130 acres of the remaining golf course for commercial recreation open space in perpetuity, and 2) implement stormwater management and flood protection mitigation strategies at the time of development permits. (Vote of the Planning Council; Unanimous: 14-0; Abramson, Brunson, Castillo, Gomez, Greenberg, Hardin, Horland, Levy, Railey, Rich, Rosenof, Ryan, Zeman and DiGiorgio):

AMENDMENT PC 23-5

Amendment to the Broward County Land Use Plan - City of Hollywood

From Commercial Recreation to 35.8 acres of Low-Medium (10) Residential and 1.0 acre of Low (5) Residential

Approximately 36.8 acres; in Section 6, Township 51 South, Range 42 East; generally located between Stirling Road and Sheridan Street, and between North 40 Avenue and North 56 Avenue.

In addition, the Planning Council further recommended that the remaining golf course (approximately 130+/- acres) currently designated as Commercial Recreation be amended to the Recreation and Open Space land use designation to further enhance the applicant’s voluntary commitment. The transmittal to State review agencies for the above recommendation immediately follows this item (Amendment PC 23-5.B.).

Further, the full amendment report is provided in Exhibit 2 of this public hearing item.
