Summary Explanation/Background

Throughout Broward County, many commercial areas have signage in need of revitalization. These areas are often occupied by small businesses with limited financial resources to undertake such improvements.

The proposed Sign Grant Pilot Program (“Program”) would allocate $200,000 to provide grant funding to small businesses across the County. The Program will be available to businesses in all 31 municipalities and the Broward Municipal Services District.  Funds will be allocated equally among each Commission District until exhausted.

As described in further detail in the attached Exhibit 1, Broward County Commercial Sign Program Overview, the Program is intended to target underserved commercial corridors and leverage existing municipal programs. This will be accomplished by aligning with local program structures and providing supplemental funding where municipal matching funds are available. Recognizing that there are varying capabilities among municipalities, the Program will provide funding regardless of whether matching funds are available from the local municipality. Municipalities will be encouraged to establish matching programs to leverage additional funds from the Program.
