Why Action is Necessary

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requires Board approval of a Resolution authorizing the execution of Public Transportation Grant Agreements.

 

What Action Accomplishes

This action provides the County with $10,904,807 in FDOT Fiscal Year 2024 public transit block grant funds for the purpose of providing transit services in Broward County.

Summary Explanation/Background

THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

 

This item supports the Board’s Connected Community Goal of “Cooperatively delivering an efficient and accessible regional intermodal transportation network" by providing operational funding for Broward County Transit.

 

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) provides Broward County funding (block grant) on an annual basis, pursuant to Chapter 341, Florida Statutes, for assistance in funding operations for fixed-route bus service. These state funds are available to offset operating expenses incurred by the Broward County Transportation Department (BCT) and require an equal local match. This Public Transportation Grant Agreement (PTGA) will provide 10,904,807 for Fiscal Year 2024 to support transit operations in Broward County.

 

The PTGA (Exhibit 2) has been reviewed and approved as to form by the County Attorney’s Office.

 

County approval of the Resolution and execution of the PTGA is required prior to FDOT executing said agreement.
