Summary Explanation/Background

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/PORT EVERGLADES DEPARTMENT/REAL PROPERTY AND REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT DIVISION AND HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

Broward County (“County”) owns certain real property within Port Everglades located at 1850-1950 Eisenhower Boulevard, in the City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida (Folio# 504214360010), known as Eisenhower Boulevard. Eisenhower Boulevard provides access to Port Everglades, the Broward County Convention Center, and cruise terminals.  A portion of Eisenhower Boulevard from SE 17th Street to SE 20th Street (“ROW Parcel”) was constructed without being formally established as public right-of-way.

The County’s Highway Construction and Engineering Division has determined that as part of the County’s construction of a bypass roadway to provide alternate access to the Convention Center and cruise terminals (“Port Everglades Bypass Road”), certain portions of County roadway must be reconstructed and widened to include the ROW Parcel.  The Port Everglades Bypass Road shall extend from the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and State Road 84 to the intersection of Eisenhower Boulevard and SE 20th Street in the City of Fort Lauderdale.

The ROW Parcel must be formally reclassified as public right-of-way to be appropriately designated as a right-of-way by the Property Appraiser and to facilitate the construction of the Port Everglades Bypass Road.  The Port Everglades Department agrees with the proposed reclassification.

The proposed Resolution (Exhibit 1) formally reclassifies the ROW Parcel, which is approximately 122,586 square feet, as public right-of-way. Exhibit 2 is a location map of the ROW Parcel.

The proposed Resolution has been approved for legal sufficiency by the Office of the County Attorney.
