Summary Explanation/Background

THE PARKS AND RECREATION DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

The requested action supports the Board’s goals of cultivating community culture, arts, recreation, and life-long learning in addition to cooperatively delivering an efficient and accessible regional intermodal transportation network.

This project would provide for the purchase of a ferry boat to shuttle residents and visitors to and from Deerfield Island Park in Deerfield Beach. Deerfield Island Park is a 53.3-acre island natural area bordered by the Intracoastal Waterway and the Hillsboro and Royal Palm canals. Deerfield Island Park is only accessible by boat. The ferry boat will increase access to the park for residents, visitors, and Broward County students, where they can learn about this preserved natural habitat within the Intracoastal Waterway.

The Resolution attached as Exhibit 1 is required by the FIND to be submitted with any grant application and is required to utilize the FIND’s form. The grant requires a 50% match from County in the amount of $125,000.
