Summary Explanation/Background
THE INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS/BOARDS SECTION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THIS ITEM.
The Police and Criminal Justice Review Board (PCJRB) is comprised of 24 members appointed by the Broward County Commission. The Caribbean Bar Association, Broward County Hispanic Association, and Florida Rising (formerly known as New Florida Majority) are organizations that nominate a member to be appointed by the County Commission.
The following nominations have been received by the Human Services Department (HSD) for appointment to the PCJRB pursuant to Section 18-7, Broward County Code:
• Nnamdi Jackson as the Caribbean Bar Association Representative.
• Nazarena Rosales Hauser as the Broward County Hispanic Bar Association Representative.
• Jonel Edwards as the Florida Rising (formerly known as New Florida Majority) Representative. The New Florida Majority filed a name change to Florida Rising with the Florida Division of Corporations on January 7, 2021.
Ms. Jackson was nominated by the Caribbean Bar Association to serve on the PCJRB on January 21st, 2021. The County Attorney has determined that Ms. Jackson qualifies for appointment (Exhibit 1).
Ms. Rosales Hauser was nominated by the Broward County Hispanic Bar Association to serve on the PCJRB on February 22nd, 2021. The County Attorney has determined that Ms. Rosales qualifies for appointment (Exhibit 2).
Mr. Edwards was nominated by Florida Rising, formerly known as New Florida Majority to serve on the PCJRB on January 25th, 2021. The County Attorney has determined that Mr. Edwards qualifies for appointment (Exhibit 3).
