Summary Explanation/Background

THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ REAL PROPERTY AND REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT AND PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

On May 21, 1985, Broward County (“County”) and the City of Fort Lauderdale (“City”) entered into a Lease Agreement whereby City leases certain real property (“Property”) from County for use as a public park known as Mills Pond Park. The Lease Agreement was amended by a First Amendment, dated January 11, 1996, to update the master plan for the park site to provide that a portion of the Property may be utilized as a batting cage facility, miniature golf course, family entertainment center, and associated concession facilities for public recreation purposes.

The term of the lease ends on May 21, 2025. The proposed Second Amendment will extend the term of the lease for an additional one-year period beginning May 21, 2025, and update certain notice requirements.

The Second Amendment has been reviewed and approved as to legal sufficiency by the Office of the County Attorney.
