Summary Explanation/Background
In 2025 the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs (“OIA”) conducted a “sunset review” of all existing Broward County boards, committees, authorities, and agencies, as required by Section 2.09 of the Broward County Charter and Sections 1-244 through 1-247 of the Code. As a result of the sunset review, OIA recommended to the Board that certain boards, committees, authorities, and agencies be “retained with changes” to the applicable authorizing legislation or be retained without changes to the applicable authorizing legislation, while others were to be repealed. The Board directed the County Attorney’s Office to prepare a resolution or ordinance, as applicable, to effectuate OIA’s recommendations.
If enacted, the proposed Ordinance will amend the Code to implement OIA’s recommendations. A separate agenda item addresses OIA’s recommendations that require amendments to the Broward County Administrative Code.
Recommendations from OIA regarding two items were omitted from the proposed Ordinance and any proposed amendments relating thereto will be addressed in subsequent agenda items.
