Summary Explanation/Background
This item permits the Commission to consider naming Boardroom 2.D.3 of the newly renovated and expanded Broward County Convention Center as the “Bertha Henry Boardroom.”
Bertha Henry served as the Broward County Administrator from 2008 until her retirement in 2022. Her vision and leadership were pivotal to the planning, financing, and development of Broward County’s Omni Fort Lauderdale Hotel and the renovation and expansion of the adjoining Broward County Convention Center. The proposed naming would honor her contributions by designating the boardroom overlooking the Fort Lauderdale skyline, where business deals will be made for decades to come, as the “Bertha Henry Boardroom.”
The sponsor submitted the proposed naming (Exhibit 2) to County Administration on October 9, 2026, consistent with the current naming procedures. However, those procedures require the Commission to first set the matter for public hearing before taking action on the proposed naming. Motion A, if approved, would waive the naming procedures and permit the Commission to consider the proposed naming at the November 10, 2026, public hearing. Motion A requires a majority plus one of the Commission to approve waiver of the applicable Administrative Code provision.
Notice of the public hearing of this item has been published in accordance with applicable requirements to enable the Commission to consider adoption of this Resolution.
